ODESSA -- An Ector County inmate escaped this morning while he was working to pick up supplies at the Ector County Annex.

Authorities eventually located 18-year-old Ignacio Guerrero Jr. behind the alley of a Payless Shoe store, and Big 2's crews were on the scene to catch all the action.

Ignacio Guererro Jr. was part of the working inmate program in Odessa. He was loading supplies at the Ector County Annex at around 10 AM Thursday, when police say Guererro fled on foot.

Two hours later he was apprehended at the Payless shoe store's alley across the street.

Wearing a green and white stripped suit, the 18 year old inmate was re-captured after his short escape.

"I woke up heard a helicopter going, i didn't know what was going on until I saw the news," said Robert Lish, an onlooker.

People gathered outside, looking over their fence at the police dogs sniffing around, trying to understand why this particular inmate would run.

"I don't care if its your birthday or Christmas I ain't trying to catch a felony for it," said Lish.

Guererro was in jail for a misdemeanor.

"He was in there for a probation violation and possession of marijuana charge," said Sgt. Gary Duesler, of the Ector County Sheriff's Office.

Now, after fleeing, Guererro's in even more trouble.

"He is going to have a bad Christmas," said Duesler.

While on scene, Big 2 Crews ran into Guererro's parents who were furious and didn't want to be on camera.

"Ya'll dont even need to be putting that on, this is private," said Guererro's mother.

Guerrero's mother said she was the one who convinced her son to turn himself in.

"I had to do a lot of convincing to tell him to call himself. It's Christmas, you don't need to be putting that on there," said Guererro'smother.

Sargent Duesler couldn't confirm her statements. He did say Guererro might not have been a threa,t but he was still a prisoner.

"He wasn't a major threat to the public, but any inmate that is in there -- there is a reason they are there," said Duesler.

As Guererro drove off staring straight at Big 2's cameras from the police car neighbors think he will be regretting his decision to run this Christmas.

"You cant run forever. You know for Christmas and is going to catch a felony for it and he is going to wish himself a Merry Christmas after that," said Lish.
