Andrews Group Considers Suing State Commission Over Waste Proposal

ANDREWS -- An Andrews group is considering suing a state commission, saying that commission didn't follow their own rules.
The Texas Low Level Radioactive Waste Disposal Commission has been looking at changing the Texas laws regarding waste disposal. Right now, only Texas and Vermont can dispose of nuclear waste in the Lone Star State, but the commission is looking at allowing 36 other states to send their waste to the W.C.S. facility in Andrews County.
The commission recently had a public comment period, where the public was allowed to send their comments to an e-mail address and the commission would review the comments. But Promote Andrews says the e-mail was never set-up, and all those e-mails were never received or read. Now, Promote Andrews is looking at suing the commission.
Waste Control Specialists issued a statement saying that this process has not been rushed, and has been studied for years. W.C.S. is urging the state to continue moving forward.
Another commission meeting will be held in Andrews on January 4th.
