The blaze started in Crane around 4 PM Tuesday, at the Faith Christ Church.
Firefighters tell Big 2 that the blaze started around the front door, and then flames were shooting through the roof. Right away the firefighters took a defensive position, working to keep the fire from spreading.
"Not too long after that the roof started collapsing, and we started chasing it, Crane Assistant Fire Chief Charlie Hite told Big 2. "So we called in Rankin, McCamey and Odessa sent in an aerial unit."
Hours later, the worst of the blaze was out, but the building was badly damaged. No one was hurt, and it's not clear how exactly the fire started.
Firefighters were set to stay on scene all night on fire watch, to keep the fire from reigniting. The building will also be evaluated, to determing if the remaining structure is safe.
