The Southern Association of Colleges and Schools Commission on Colleges has placed Sul Ross State University on 12 months probation. The commission could have removed the university's accreditation altogether, but they felt the school has been making improvements, and that it should be in better shape next December.
Sul Ross State University President Dr. Ricardo Maestas says he has already worked to improve graduation rates at the school. But, he added that more work needs to be done to keep and graduate students. He also feels that the university will show serious improvement by the end of the probation period.
