A fuel tanker fire has closed both directions of I-30 near Hampton, just west of the Dallas bulk mail center.
About 1:30 a.m. the first 911 calls started coming in from drivers who witnessed a cataclysmic fire when a tanker lost control and smashed into a median retaining wall.
The momentum of the tanker carried it along the wall for some distance, trailing a stream of burning fuel.
Another 18-wheeler and a four-door car became caught up in the collision. Several people were taken to a Dallas hospital and a spokeswoman for the Dallas County Sheriff's Office believed their injuries were not life-threatening.
All but one Eastbound lane had reopened by 9:30am Friday morning.
