ALPINE -- For the past five years, Budget Travel magazine has helped its readers discover travel beyond the big cities to experience something different:  America's Coolest Small Towns.  Each year, they profile up-and-coming American towns that stand out from mainstream America.

Equal parts hip and humble, these edgy small towns offer visitors a truly authentic experience. For the third year in a row, the editors of Budget Travel decided to again engage their readers to nominate and vote for their own favorite small towns and Alpine, TX is one of the 20 nominations

As many know, Alpine is very pictureques. It's surrounded by red mountains and vast cattle ranches. It's also an outpost for authentic center of cowboy culture, with the annual texas cowboy poetry gathering coming up at the end of this month.

The online poll for the Coolest Small Towns in America is currently open for voting and will remain open until February 11, 2011(visitors to the site can vote everyday):  http://www.budgettravel.com/bt-srv/coolestsmalltowns The winners will be profiled in Budget Travel magazine's 2011 September issue.

As of Friday morning, Alpine is in 12th place with 6,823 votes.
