Bowl for Kids’ Sake (BFKS), the annual fundraising event for Big Brothers Big Sisters, will take place Feb. 12, 2011, at AMF Midland Park Lanes. “Bowl for Kids’ Sake is about having fun and helping kids,” said Executive Director Kay Crites. “All money raised during this event goes directly toward matching more local children with professionally-supported, one-to-one mentors, and studies have shown that children who have mentors are less likely to abuse drugs and alcohol, less likely to end up in the criminal justice system and more likely to stay in school. So, anyone who cares about kids, who wants to make Midland a better place to live and who can ‘spare’ a little time for fun, will find Bowl for Kids’ Sake ‘right up their alley.’ We encourage anyone and everyone to get involved as a team captain, bowler, sponsor…or all three.”

Bowl for Kids’ Sake is an outing with an informal team of five friends, family members, neighbors or colleagues. “It’s not skill or score that counts, it’s you,” Crites said. The annual event features four, two-hour flights scheduled throughout the day for Friends and Family, Education, Oil and Gas Industry and Business and Professional. Participants bowl two games with their teams, just for the fun of it. Incentives are awarded for individuals who raise more than the minimum contribution to participate, with special grand prizes for the top five fundraising individuals.

During your scheduled two hours, you can look forward to delicious food donated by local restaurants, drinks, fabulous balloon creations from Harlin the Balloon Man, door prizes given away continuously, a new blind auction with great items to bid on and the satisfaction of knowing that you’re having fun and helping Midland’s kids,” said Crites.

Sponsor levels are $250, $500, $1,000, $2,500 and $5,000, and include various levels of recognition. Underwriting opportunities range from $150 for soft drinks to $250 for sponsoring a team of “Littles” or $300 for t-shirts.

The minimum entry fee for teams is $150 ($30 per person). “However,” Crites said, “at the $150 level, the team captain receives a Bowl for Kids’ Sake t-shirt. If a team raises $250, every member gets a t-shirt, and these shirts are very popular.”
