EL PASO -- The family of a boy who was shot dead by Border Patrol agents last year has sued the U.S. government.

That lawsuit was filed Monday in District Court. In the suit, the family claims that the Border Patrol violated Sergio Adrian Hernandez Guereca's civil rights. Agents said Guereca was throwing rocks along the El Paso border, which led to the shooting.

The boy had a history of arrests, but had never been charged with an actual crime.
