Statement From Odessa College President On Senate Funding Decision

By: Dr. Gregory WIlliams, Odessa College President
Updated: January 24, 2011
ODESSA — “State Senator Kel Seliger’s office sent a news release this afternoon stating he 'was pleased to report the inclusion of funding for the continued operation of Frank Phillips College in Borger and Odessa College in Odessa in the Senate budget released this morning,' and that 'this is consistent with the value provided to the people of Texas and their future by the community college system.'

“Senator Seliger personally called me this morning to let me know that Odessa College was indeed included in the Senate budget proposal that was released this morning.

“While this is something we did expect, under the current circumstances and with what has happened in the Texas House of Representatives lately, it is heart warming to know that we will indeed receive State funding based on the contact hours we have earned under the community college funding system.

“We sincerely appreciate the efforts of Senator Seliger and Representative Tryon Lewis, who have both worked diligently on behalf of Odessa College.”
