MIDLAND/ODESSA -- December's unemployment numbers are in for the Lone Star State -- and it's good news for the Permian Basin.

At 4.9 percent, the Tall City continues to have the lowest unemployment rate in the entire state. Odessa's unemployment numbers are higher -- at 7 percent -- but that's still better than most cities in the state.

The positive trend continued throughout West Texas -- with rates in Lubbock, San Angelo and Abilene all under 7 percent. That's well below the national unemployment average of 9.1 percent.
