Odessa College held a check presentation after receiving a donation from Wells Fargo in the amount of $5000. This comes a week after the Texas House called for no state money to be spent on O.C.
Wells Fargo President David Shipman was on hand to present the check to O.C. President Gregory Williams, and he also issued a challenge to local business owners to match or exceed their donation.
" Getting the business community especially to be involved was just a way to raise that many more dollars for scholarships," said Shipman.
This is just more good news for Odessa College who just learned the Texas Senate proposed a bill allocating almost $6.6 million over the next two years.
"The future is bright for Odessa College," said Odessa College President Dr. Gregory Williams. "We've been here 60 plus years and we're going to be here long term. We would like for the state to support us and we feel like we've earned that. We have an agreement with the state and we've lived up to our part of the bargain and we expect them to do the same."
With plenty of supporters, it's safe to say that Odessa College is here to stay. There has already been an anonymous donor who has matched the donation made by Wells Fargo. So, it's pretty clear that people in the community really value this college and are stepping up in the fight to keep it open.
