"There's a country that needs the vigor and vision of a woman like myself", said Jones. "A daughter of Texas whose proven conservative. I look forward to going and teaching the United States Senate how things are done in Texas."
Jones aims to fill the void that will be left when long time seat holder, Kay Bailey Hutchison, steps down after her current term expires.
She won't be alone in the race to fill Hutchison's seat. Current Chairman of the Texas Railroad Commission, Michael Williams, announced that he too will run for the U.S. Senate seat.
And so will former Texas Secretary of State Roger Williams. All of them, facing off in the republican primary.
Jones says that as a Senator, she will be busy un-doing things she believes let America slide into mediocrity. Obamacare in particular.
"Obamacare has got to be repealed completely and we've got to start over from scratch and cinivize competition among companies", Jones said. "Put more control in the hands of the consumer of healthcare."
She knows she has her work cut out for her but says that in this horse race, you will want to bet on the filly.
