One Book Odessa is a community wide program designed to encourage everyone in Odessa to read the same book over a nine month period.

The goal of the project is to get people reading and talking about the importance of reading, while raising awareness of the resources available through the Ector County Library and other civic organizations.

To accomplish this goal, the initiative selected Brad Meltzer’s ‘The Book of Lies’ as the 2011 selection. Every month between January and October, various organizations will be holding events designed to draw attendance and promote the book and the program. This will culminate with Brad Meltzer’s appearance in Odessa on October 21, 2011, where he will participate in a moderated interview at the Globe Theater and sign copies of the book.

‘The Book of Lies’ has themes which will encourage readers of all ages to explore the meaning of the word ‘Hero,’ and how it is used.
