MIDLAND --  While the cold has caused all kinds of problems for residents in homes and apartments across the Permian Basin, the conditions have been dangerous for people living on the streets.

The Salvation Army of Midland has opened its doors for those who need a place to stay. Office manager Anna Delgado tells Big 2 that the shelter is nearly full, and that the amount of people staying there has almost doubled.

"If people want to continue to bring even jackets, we can accept jackets, pillows, towels, said Delgado. "Food donations would be welcome as well. We do serve the community."

Those without a home appreciate the Salvation Army giving them somewhere warm to stay.

"If I'm freezing, I don't mind to get paid to be freezing," said Richard Carlin, who's staying at the shelter. "But if I'm not getting paid to be freezing I'd rather be inside."

Delgado also said that if people living on the streets need jackets, the Salvation Army can provide those for them.
