Snow Accumulates On Roads In Basin

ODESSA -- Even with all the cold and snow we've seen the past few days, people in the central part of the Permian Basin woke up to something new Thursday morning -- a blanket of snow on the roadways.

About an inch of snow that fell overnight Wednesday stuck to the roads Thursday morning, making conditions slick and traction poor for drivers in the Permian Basin. Very little snow stuck to the roads during the first wave of the storm Tuesday morning, so this was the first time this week that drivers actually traveled on a sheet of snow.

With more snow accumulations still possible, TXDOT is warning drivers to be cautious.

"As I've said before, as much work as we do, it's still incumbent upon people to remember that this is winter weather and they need to drive slowly," said Gene Powell of TXDOT.

Powell added that TXDOT hasn't heard of any road closures or major accidents, although he urged drivers to be careful.
