ODESSA -- When it comes to water pipes at your home, there are some measures you can take to prevent them from freezing over and eventually leaking.

"The big thing is make sure any pipes in unheated areas," Wayen Baird of the Bosworth Company told Big 2. "Put some kind of space heater or any kind of heat source to keep those pipes from freezing or keep the temperatures from dropping too much."

Baird also says you can install heat tape on the pipes. As the temperatures rise, you need to keep an eye on your pipes as they begin to thaw out.

Baird adds that residents need to know how to turn the water off, if there is a leak.
