Heating Technicians Keep Busy In Winter Weather

MIDLAND -- As we all know by now, freezing temperatures have caused Basin residents tons of problems, and have been keeping area technicians busy.
While some people in the Permian Basin are going without heat, there are others who want to make sure they stay warm during this winter blast. But to do that, sometimes they need to talk to an expert.
This winter you could find recent widow Johnnie Lydle resting with her tiny dogs. For her, being warm is most important.
"There's not anything worse than being cold and hungry," said Lydle. "Thats the two worst things in life."
Johnnie's late husband of 65 years passed away back in September. Now its up to her to make sure her heater is working right. That's why she called David Rydell from One Hour Heat and Air.
"We have been very busy because of the cold weather," said Rydell.
One Hour Heat and Air's been busy checking gas and electric systems, Screwing them in place and putting them back together. What Johnnie is getting is a check up. That way she doesn't to get stuck without heat.
"Check for carbon monoxide," said Rydell. "Check for gas pressure,"
"[If you don't check] You have a chance of having a problem that could be severe," he added. "There's fire trucks running around all the time."
And this past week, much of the Basin has lost power, leaving many people unhappy.
"[People are] miserable" said Rydell. "It's been in the teens. They have people who are suffering."
But Johnnie -- who has 26 great grandchildren -- is staying warm and is counting her blessings.
"I'm thankful," said Lydle. "Gods been good to me, this is old folks neighborhood, and I stay indoors."
Rydell told me that the best way to prevent heating problems is to simply change your filter. He says if you're still worried, you should call and have a winter maintenance check done -- to make sure everything is running properly.
