MIDLAND -- While the Permian Basin has been dealing with cold temperatures, much of Texoma, North Texas and the Panhandle are digging out from snow and ice. These conditions have made life treacherous for people traveling to the north and east.

The Texas Division of Emergency Management warns people heading those directions to check weather forecasts before they travel. Also, be sure to keep your gas tank full to keep ice from building up in it.

If you drive on ice, take your time and start slowing down from a greater distance to stop in time. Also be sure to look out for down trees and power lines in the road.
