Crime Rate Down In Odessa In 2010

ODESSA --- The latest crime stats are in for Odessa, and the crime rate is going down.

    Crimes dropped 13 percent from 2009 to 2010. There were more than 4909 crimes in 2009, but 4265 in 2010. Burglaries were down almost 25 percent, while arson cases and robberies were down more than 45 percent. There were also 3 murders in Odessa in 2010, down from 5 in 2009.

    The only crime statistic to go up in 2010 was aggravated assault. That was also the only crime stat to spike in Midland last year.

2010 STATISTICS
Odessa's crime rate was down in five of the eight Part I crime categories. 
The overall Part I crime rate for 2010 decreased by 13% as compared with 2009 (4265 vs 4909).
The violent crime rate for 2010 decreased by 6% as compared with 2009 (726 vs 770).
     The property crime rate for 2010 decreased by 15% as compared with 2009 (3539 vs 4139).

The Part II crime rate for 2010 decreased by 12% as compared with 2009 (5490 vs 6252).
