LEA COUNTY -- A series of fires broke out across Lea County, NM on Tuesday. These blazes were caused by dry conditions and fierce winds.

The first fire occurred on Six Shooter Road near Lovington on Tuesday morning. A chain being dragged by a vehicle kicked up sparks, and one acre burned.

Another fire broke out in Hobbs on Kansas and Mockingbird. That blaze was started by a welder, and it burned about 40 acres. Fire crews had to evacuate several homes as fences caught fire, but no homes were lost.

A third fire broke out Tuesday afternoon near Lovington. That blaze burned more than 67 acres.
