LUBBOCK -- The former principal of the West Texas State School in Pyote was cross-examined by prosecutors in Lubbock on Friday -- one day after he took the stand in his own defense.

John Paul Hernandez, 45, is accused of sexually molesting several inmates at the facility in 2004 and 2005. Five of those former inmates took the stand in the trial and admitted that Hernandez would give them favors before molesting them.

On Thursday, Hernandez took the stand as the final witness called by the defense. He denied that anything sexual had ever occurred between him and the inmates.

Hernandez is facing 11 counts for the alleged abuse, including a sexual assault charge. He has pleaded not guilty to the charges.

Closing arguments in the case are expected Monday.
