Fire Evacuates Homes In Lovington, 11 Homes Burned

LOVINGTON, NM -- A structure fire burned 11 homes in Lovington, NM Wednesday afternoon and forced evacuations of several other nearby homes.

The fire broke out around 12:30 PM Wednesday on the west side of Lovington. The flames spread quickly and burned 11 homes.

Smoke from the blaze was visible from miles away and crews had to evacuate several homes west of 17th Street.

Crews were able to put the fire out by around 3:30 PM, but they were also hosing down the burned structures at that time to keep them from catching fire.

The cause of the fire is unknown at this time, and no injuries have been reported so far.
