Tips For Staying Safe During Tornadoes

AUSTIN -- This week is severe weather awareness week in Texas. While we've seen heavy winds in the Permian Basin, we're lucky we haven't seen any tornadoes.
While tornadoes can pop up at anytime, they typically show up in the spring and summer seasons.
If there's a tornado warning, you need seek shelter inside your home on the lowest floor. Find an area without windows -- like a bathroom or stairwell -- since windows could explode, sending glass everywhere.
Never try to outrun a tornado in a car. If you're on the road, get out and lie flat in a ditch or ravine.
