MIDLAND -- A former Odessa car salesman who was accused of identity theft will spend more than 2 years behind bars after he pleaded guilty to the charges.

Jose Rosa Ortiz was sentenced to 36 months in federal prison on Thursday. Ortiz, 46, was working at All-American Dodge in Odessa in 2006, when he used a Kermit man's name and social security number to buy a new Chevy Suburban. He also used that identity to open several credit card accounts.

Ortiz found the victim's information in some loan paperwork. The victim's name was reportedly similar to Ortiz's.

Along with prison time, Ortiz will also have to pay more than $50,000 in restitution.
