LUBBOCK -- A terror suspect who was arrested earlier this week in Lubbock has now made his first appearance in court.

Khaliad Ali-M Aldawsari was brought to federal court in Lubbock under heavy guard Friday, and he didn't say much after he was inside. All he said during his appearance was that he understood his rights. The next hearing is March 11th.

Aldawsari's attorney -- Rod Hobson -- issued a statement asking "everyone to take a step back and allow the legal proceedings to unfold in a timely and orderly fashion." The prosecution had no comment.

Aldawsari was arrested on Wednesday, after agents searched his Lubbock apartment near the Texas Tech campus. The F.B.I. Says they found chemicals, beakers, flasks, a hazmat suit, and a journal outlining plans to wage jihad in America. The journal outlines plans to build bombs and target different areas including the Dallas home of former president George W. Bush.
