Gas Mileage Saving Tips

MIDLAND -- A lot of drivers were shocked when gasoline prices reached $3.00 a gallon, but the situation at the pump could be getting a lot worse.
Unrest in the Middle East -- coupled with the rising demand internationally -- has many analysts predicting gas in the U.S. could hit $4.00 a gallon by this summer. And our wallet isn't the only thing that would feel the impact. Reports out of Washington suggest that Republicans are using the rising gas prices against President Obama, saying the current administration hasn't done enough to boost energy production in the U.S.
As gas prices continue to rise, there are some things that you can do to help save fuel and money. Experts say that under-inflated tires can cost drivers a mile or two per gallon, so you need to have your tires checked on a regular basis.
Another thing that could end up costing you is a clogged air filter. Experts say replacing the filter can improve your gas mileage by as much as 10 percent.

"One that's the most overlooked items on most vehicles -- it's estimated that we lose, in the nation, 147 million gallons by evaporation," George Lara, Sr. of Lara Automotive told Big 2. "If you got a bad gas cap -- don't have a gas cap -- there are many millions of dollars lost every year due to evaporation."
