BREWSTER COUNTY -- A wildfire continues to spread in Brewster County.

The blaze southwest of Alpine has now burned 3000 acres. The fire is 50 percent contained.

Two 20-person hand crews continue to fight the blaze from the ground, with a third hand crew on route. Two more hand crews have been requested. Six fire engines are helping the crews on the ground, but the rugged terrain has made battling the flames difficult.

Two heavy helicopters are dropping 1000 gallon buckets of water, while a heavy air tanker is dropping fire retardants along with 4 more air tankers and an air attack.

A total of 7 structures are now threatened by the blaze. An additional 15 structures are within two miles of the blaze. Fortunately, no structures have been lost.
