MIDLAND -- A pit fire was causing big problems near Midland International Airport Monday night.

The blaze broke out around 8:15 PM Monday. It appeared to start as a controlled burn in a pit across the railroad tracks from Business 20 by the airport. But some lumber caught fire in that pit, sparking some large flames.

Several fire units and Midland County Fire Marshal Dale Little were called out to that blaze. Crews were calling for a lot of water and lines to fight that blaze.
