BIG SPRING -- Months without rain have dried up the Permian Basin. Now one city is tired of waiting. On Thursday night, they were taking action.

The power of prayer. That's what residents in Big Spring are hoping will bring an end to our recent dry spell. Big Spring is a heavily agricultural town, and this dry spell is having a major affect on local farmers. Now,they turning to God for help by praying as a community.

"It was a need we had," said Tim Blackshear, one of the organizers of the prayer event. "Not only just for water or rain but the healing of our land."

"I believe in the power of prayer," added Donnie Reid, a farmer from near Big Spring. "I think that we all need to get out and pray for rain"

Many came to the First Baptist Church in Big Spring to appeal to God for much needed rain. Local leaders, like the former Mayor Tim Blackshear, organized the event to bring the community together. The service had several speakers including the pastor and local farmers, who are dealing with the dry spell first hand.
