These fires broke out near the southeast part of the Loop 338 around 2 PM Monday. They burned more than 50 acres in the area.
Fire officials say that a car went off the road, sparking the blaze. Gusty winds helped to spread it across the area.
Fire units had to close the loop between South Ranchito and Interstate 20 while they worked to put out the flames. Crews were hitting the hot spots and trying to contain that fire.
Odessa Fire units worked the fire, along with West Odessa Volunteer firefighters. A task force from the Texas Forest Service was also called to the scene. The task force used three bulldozers, an engine, an air attack, two Single Engine Air Tankers and a heavy Helitanker to help fight the blaze.
Five structures were threatened, although none were reported to be lost. A gas compression station and several pumpjacks were also threatened. No injuries have been reported.
