PECOS -- Pecos City Manager Joseph Gilbert Torres was found dead in his home Wednesday morning in the 2000 of West Jackson St. It appeared that he took his own life.

Torres was indicted Tuesday afternoon for indecency with a child. The indictment says that Torres touched a girl under the age of 17 inappropriately back in July 2001. Torres had just turned 50 on Monday.

I talked with the Mayor of Pecos and she said when she found out about the indictment, she was shocked. This just didn't seem like the same man that she knew.

"He was positive on Pecos," said Pecos Mayor Venetta Seals. "That's why he really loved his job here. He was in promoting Pecos and trying to make Pecos a better place for everyone whether you lived here long term, short term or just passing through."

Torres has been the City Manager of Pecos since 2004. He was a graduate of Pecos High School in 1971 and served in the U.S. Army from 1971-77 as a non-commissioned officer.

Details are still slim on what exactly happened. Texas Rangers were called in to investigate the situation.

I was at Torres' house for a few hours today and I noticed that there was a group of people in the living room for most of the day.

Neighbors didn't want to speak with me cause they were also in shock over what happened.

Big 2 will bring you details as we get them.
