MIDLAND -- A big danger out on the road is texting and driving -- and a local high school is trying to curb that trend.

The Early College High School at Midland College is hosting a Driver Safety Week, with some help from an organization called Teens in the Driver Seat.

On Monday, the focus was on drinking and driving. On Tuesday, the group turned to a problem that's getting worse and worse everyday -- texting behind the wheel.

"[Teens] need to understand that they can stop that stuff," said Debra Linton. "That they can be part of the solution. They don't have to be part of the problem."

Throughout the rest of the week, the group will be discussing more dangers out on the road -- things like distracted driving, speeding and driving sleepy.
