AUSTIN -- Last week, Big 2's Jackie Smith reported that the Texas Legislature was considering raising the speed limit on some Texas highways to 85 mph. Those speeds would be the highest in the nation.

Now, Big 2 has learned that the proposed speed limit changes would only be on Texas roads built after June 2011. This means that the speed limit would not be raised on Interstate 20 and Interstate 10 in West Texas.

West Texas would only see roads with an 85 mph speed limit if new roads were built in the area.
