ODESSA -- A former Permian gridiron hero has been suspended by the State Bar of Texas.

The bar banned Brian Chavez from serving as a lawyer in the Lone Star State for the next 5 years, after Chavez pleaded guilty to burglary charges.

Chavez -- who starred on the late 1980s Permian football team that was featured in the movie Friday Night Lights -- later went to Harvard. Then, he became a prominent lawyer in Odessa.

In October 2009, Chavez and three other people broke into an Odessa home and confronted the residents. Chavez pleaded guilty in July 2010. All four defendants were sentenced to probation in December 2010.

Now, Chavez can't serve as a lawyer in the state for the next 5 years.
