Devon Energy has donated $10,000 to the South Ector County Volunteer Fire Department. The money will be used for a new brush fire truck, along with modifications to make the truck a better piece of equipment. The truck will be fitted with a 1500 gallon water tank, and it will be able to tackle some of the areas toughest fires.
"The brush fires we've had this spring are nearly unprecedented for this area," said Bruce Carians of Devon Energy. "So it's a time when equipment and funds are a shortage for the V.F.D.'s. We're just glad to be able to help out."
"We were in desperate need of something of this magnitude to help us out," said Cpt. Bryan Barrow of the South Odessa V.F.D. "Our trucks are old. They get worn out "
Barrow says that this is by far the worst fire season he's seen, with nearly three times as many calls as normal. He also says this truck will be able to do more than their current fleet.
