On Tuesday night, the E.C.I.S.D. Board of Trustees adopted a ground-breaking definition of diversity for all of its schools. The vote came after five months of work, and it ends three decades of the same government-driven formula.
The new diversity definition does not allow race to be the sole, or even the primary, determinant of diversity. Instead the new definition relies on 7 factors, including economic status... English proficiency and education needs.
