MIDLAND -- A large fire that forced evacuations in Midland Tuesday evening has been contained. Evacuees were allowed to return to their homes in southwest Midland Tuesday evening.

The fire broke out along F.M. 1788 and TX 191 around 2:45 PM Tuesday. It quickly spread to the southeast, and it jumped Loop 250 around 4:30 PM, threatening homes in the area.

People living between Ric Drive and Anetta between Midland Drive and Loop 250 were evacuated just before 5 PM Tuesday. The Lakes Apartments north of Ric Drive were also evacuated.
Evacuees went to a temporary evacuation site at the Midland Horseshoe Arena.

Additionally, road closures tied up Midland Cpunty roadways. Loop 250 was closed between Interstate 20 and TX 191. TX 191 was closed between Faudree Road and Loop 250. F.M. 1788 was closed at TX 191. All three of those roads were re-opened around 7:45 PM Tuesday.

Earlier Tuesday, the CEED Building and the Wagner Noel Performing Arts Center near TX 191 and F.M. 178 were evacuated, since the fire was threatening those buildings. Those evacuations have since been lifted.
