Midland - Advances in technology have brought oil companies back to places that haven't been drilled on in years. Residents in Gardendale know this all too well and some even fought to form a city government to try and protect their land earlier this year. In the end, the majority of people voted against it, and now they face a long road ahead.

While these surface owners could end up spending thousands of dollars on a team of attorney's to try and protect their property, Big 2 spoke with a local man who has some advice that money can't buy. Born and raised in Midland, Adam Pollard has worked in the oil business since he was 15 years old. While being a landman is one of his passions, ranching is the other.

Pollard owns 234 acres in Midland County and, like some landowners in Gardendale, he deals with oil companies who come in to drill on his property everyday. But with years of experience in the oil industry, he understands what it takes to protect his land before drilling ever begins.
