Most home improvement projects take time and money, and require skilled, reputable contractors. In today's Comment Cents segment, BBB's Trish Powell shares tips on finding that reputable company to do your home improvement projects.
Tips:
Do your research.
o Take time to research multiple companies.
o You can check any company's business review at bbb.org to see any history of complaints.
o Ask for references and check with other customers to see if they were satisfied with the job done.
Get multiple bids.
o Solicit bids from at least three different companies.
o All bids should be in writing and should provide a full description of the services to be provided and the materials to be used.
- Depending on the nature of the work, you may wish to specify the kinds (grade or thickness) of materials that will be used, as this could affect the bid.
Check licenses.
o The Texas Department of Licensing and Regulation (TDLR) is a state regulatory agency responsible for issuing licenses, conducting inspections, investigating complaints, assessing penalties, setting rules and standards and holding hearings.
Review Warranty Coverage.
