Midland - After months of considering an agreement that would allow oil companies to drill at the Midland Airpark, Midland City Council members are finally moving forward.

The city is now able to lease the minerals in and around the airport to explore, drill and ultimately, produce oil and gas.City Manager Courtney Sharp has been given the green light to negotiate and execute a lease agreement with Windsor Permian, LLC.

"We're always looking for ways of assisting airports and revenues. As the oil price and economy has changed, it made it more viable, at this point in time, to look at leasing those mineral rights," says Marv Esterly, Director of Airports.

The Midland City Council started talking about the idea about a year ago.Now that they've decided to move forward, they're in negotiations with Windsor Permian, LLC.

Although there will some inconveniences associated with drilling at this particular location, Esterly says they're plan is to try and make it as convenient as possible for pilots and travelers that use the airport.
