On Thursday morning, the F.L.D.S. leader spent 40 minutes explaining to District Judge Barbara Walther that he has fired all of his attorneys and wants to represent himself. During his statement to the court, Jeffs said each one of the attorneys he has hired has been through training by himself.
A Nevada State Trooper could take the stand Thursday morning in a hearing surrounding evidence to be presented in Jeffs' child sexual assault trial. The trooper was on the scene in August 2006 when Jeffs was arrested during a traffic stop north of Las Vegas. At issue is evidence seized from the red Cadillac Escalade in which Jeffs was a passenger at the time of his arrest -- in particular, an audio recording.
On Wednesday, without the jury present, Judge Barbara Walther heard arguments on legal issues -- including the validity of search warrants and Child Protective Service hearings. Jurors were instructed to arrive at 9 AM Thursday.
