Hurricane Irene is showing sings of intensification early this morning and will likely grow to a category 3 hurricane by the end of today. This makes Irene a major hurricane with winds will over 100 mph, tomorrow winds could exceed 135mph giving her a category 4 rating! Despite all the action in the tropics, the only impacts from Irene will be along the eastern seaboard. The Permian Basin will stay dry and very hot today though the weekend. Today's temperatures will top out at 100 degrees, the same Wednesday followed by a couple upper 90 degree days Thursday and Friday. Triple digit heat will quickly return though this weekend and by early next week temps will approach near 105! August is on its way to being the 2nd hottest month on record following only June of this year. The 2011 year will go down in the books as one of the most extreme years on record.
