Webster Fills Big Shoes Easily

When Tyler Middleton graduated Midland High he left a pair of massive shoes to fill. Middleton was part of a Midland High offense that set a school record for rushing yards in 2010. This year the duty of keeping up that tradition fell on the shoulders of Jacoby Webster.
Although the burden is heavy, Webster takes it all in stride, "I don't think about it, last year is last year and I just try to come out here and do whatever I can."
Through the first three games of the season Webster is averaging 117 yards and three touchdowns per game and says it's all a result of hard work, "I'm having great success, the line they're doing their thing blocking hard, working hard every day and I try to finish off runs and run hard every day."
Jacoby is getting recognition through his play, but it's the recognition he got before the season started that means the most. In pre-season Webster was named as a team captain, something his teammates and coaches see as the ultimate sign of respect.
"He's one of our captains so that says enough as far as his teammates are concerned," says MHS head coach Craig Yenzer.
Senior quarterback Tanner Culp agrees, "Jacoby, he's an integrity guy, he always get his job done, he runs hard...it's always nice to have Jacoby by your side."
Webster is just one of many Bulldogs putting up impressive numbers before district play. Both Culp and wide receiver Donovan Lee are among the top three in passing and recieving respectively, making MHS the only school in district 3-5A with players in the top three of all categories.
Webster sums it up simply saying, "I try to come work hard every day and be the best I can be and keep up the hard work, that's about it."
MHS will look for another big outing from Webster on Friday when the Bulldogs play Lubbock Monterey.
