Mexican Minister of Environment and Natural Resources Juan Rafael Elvira Quesada and Secretary of the Interior Ken Salazar signed a statement vowing to work together in areas along the border to protect the Big Bend Region and Rio Bravo. Each county will still patrol its own parks using their own laws.
They will also work to protect the hundreds of unique species of wildlife found in the desert's ecosystem.
This statement cements an agreement that was first made back in 1944.
