Women of the same age fare better.
Only one in ten lives with her parents.
Those figures are up from 2005, when 14 percent of young men and eight percent of young women lived at home.
Officials note that the increase began before the onset of the latest recession and has continued through it.
The study also found that about two-thirds of children under the age of 18 live with two parents.
Of the nearly 68-million opposite-sex couples living together, nearly 90 percent are married.
Married couples with children now make up only one in five U.S. households, which is about half what it was in 1970.
