Verizon's new store trade-in program allows customers from any wireless carrier to get store credit for turning in wireless devices they no longer use.
The program will allow Verizon to recycle the old phones, tablets and more -- which will reduce downstream e-waste.
Verizon says about 130 million wireless devices go out of use each year, but only about 10 percent of them are recycled. The company hopes the new program will raise that percentage.
The first phase of the program's nationwide rollout launched Tuesday in 11 states across the southern United States -- including Texas.
