Big 2 recently reported that Texas Parks and Wildlife Department officials have been killing wild burros in Big Bend Ranch State Park so that bighorn sheep can roam the park land.
The sheep are a top hunting prize, and some hunters have shelled out more than $100,000 to get a trophy bighorn.
But not everyone is happy about the demise of the burros. In fact, The Big Bend Sentinel reports that there was a rally against the burro killings on November 23rd in Alpine.
The rally came on the 40th anniversary of the Wild Horse and Burro Protection Act.
Organizers hope to get 100,000 signatures from Texans to petition the state to stop shooting the wild burros.
As of Tuesday, there are only about 130 signatures on that petition.
