MIDLAND -- A driver ends up in the hospital, after crashing into a cow on a Midland highway.

The incident around 5:30 PM Wednesday near Loop 250 and TX 191.

Midland Police say that a cattle trailer shimmied open near Loop 250, and a cow fell out the back of the vehicle.

The animal was walking across the loop when a driver crashed into it with his car.

The man was taken to Midland Memorial Hospital with non-life threatening injuries -- while the cow died on impact.

The crash also tied up traffic on Loop 250 during one of the busiest times of the day. The ensuing traffic caused two other smaller accidents along the loop.
