Sesame Street is Coming to Afghanistan.

By: Stephanie Castillo
Updated: December 1, 2011

An Afghan version of the show which is partly funded by the U-S government will begin airing Thursday.

With very few Afghan kids attending kindergarten, the show seeks to fill the educational void.

An Afghan media company spent a year tailoring the popular children's program to the new audience.

The show is in the Dari and Pashto languages, characters such as Elmo and Ernie got new names, and all the women wear veils.

This Sesame Street version is also partly filmed in Afghanistan.
