Study Finds Americans View Vacations As Luxury

WASHINGTON, DC -- Americans tend to view vacation more as a luxury than a fact of life.

A new Expedia.com study of vacation habits around the world also shows Americans receive only about the half the vacation time of Europeans.

Workers in the U.S. earned an average of 14 vacation days in 2011, but took just 12. That compares to 30 days vacation for the French, who enjoyed all of 30 of them this year.

Overall, the 2011 Vacation Deprivation study found that American habits are more like the Asians than Europeans.

The typical Japanese worker took just five days off this year.
